In the current era of comic book offerings and all things remade, rebooted or re-imagined, the longevity of directors like Quentin Tarantino must be appreciated for their distinct storytelling and visual style. A Tarantino film embodies a particular atmosphere that is truly unique and singular. This is echoed in the latest posters and new teaser trailer for Once Upon A Time in Hollywood.
Coming to theatres on July 26th, the film promises to reunite Tarantino with his Inglorious Bastards star Brad Pitt and Django Unchained‘s Leonardo DiCaprio in 1960s retro flare at a time where Hollywood celebrity was an alluring culture of all its own. The Pitt and DiCaprio poster speaks to the very nature of celebrity itself where two true Hollywood movie stars simply pose with coolness, harkening back to a time when a director’s name was all that was needed to sell a movie.
Also recently released is Margot Robbie’s character poster, posing as that late actress Sharon Tate. The image of a 60s era Robbie with a blurred Westwood Cinema in the background reaffirms that Once Upon A Time in Hollywood promises to be a cool, hip and offbeat visit to a time when the golden image of Hollywood and celebrity began to fade.
In discussing Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Tarantino shared with THR back in February 2018 that the film is “a story that takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood. The two lead characters are Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio), former star of a Western TV series, and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt). Both are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don’t recognize anymore. But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbor … Sharon Tate”.
With Tarantino, one can always accept something new from the two-time Oscar winning filmmaker. Expectations are high for Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and the new posters and trailer only reaffirms the anticipation for July.
