As if we weren’t already excited enough for Luca Guadagnino’s remake of Suspiria, Amazon Studios has dropped a new photo from the film. The photo will be featured as an exclusive first look at the film in Entertainment Weekly.
Dakota Johnson (50 Shades trilogy), playing the lead role of Susie Bannion, is clad in red rope and flanked by other ballet dancers. The red seems to be an ode to the original Suspiria’s striking use of color, particularly vibrant reds. At first glance, it seems to be a simple photo. But, it oozes dread. The film’s official Twitter says we should give ourselves to dance and this photo makes me want to do just that.
Guadagnino, relatively fresh off the success of Call Me By Your Name, is adapting Dario Argento’s horror classic. While Argento’s film was a tight 100 minutes, Guadagnino’s adaptation will clock in at over two hours and a half hours. That’s an extra hour of bloody, dancer-filled horror. For those unfamiliar with the story, here’s a quick Suspiria synopsis:
A young American ballet dancer travels to a prestigious dance academy in Europe, only to discover it is something far more sinister and supernatural. She becomes increasingly terrified after a series of gruesome murders ensue and she slowly unravels the dark history of the academy.
Tilda Swinton (We Need to Talk About Kevin), Chloe Grace Moretz (Carrie), Mia Goth (A Cure for Wellness), and Jessica Harper star alongside Johnson in Suspiria. Alongside a star-studded cast is Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, who composed the soundtrack.
Suspiria debuts at 75th Venice International Film Festival on September 1st. It’s set to be released in the U.S on November 2nd, 2018. Are you excited for the remake?
