Neil Gaiman fans rejoice! American Gods is finally headed back to TV. A recent poster confirms the Season Two premiere date to be March 10th, 2019. Check out the poster, which features Ricky Whittle’s Shadow Moon and Ian McShane’s Mr. Wednesday, below.
Fans already know that it’s been a twisty road to American Gods Season 2. Last year, cult favorite showrunner Bryan Fuller exited the show, to the disappointment of many fans. New showrunner Jesse Alexander was announced shortly after, which eased some fans’ minds. Alexander, after all, worked on previous Bryan Fuller shows like Hannibal and Star Trek: Discovery. Still, there is a signature Fuller tone to the shows he works on, so it will be interesting to see just how the show looks when it returns this March.
Unfortunately, without Fuller on the show some of the fan-favorite characters have decided to bow out as well. According to TV Line, Kristin Chenoweth (who plays Easter) and Gillian Anderson (who plays Media) have both declined to return. So not only will the show potentially have a different feel, it will definitely feature a lot of different faces. We reported earlier this year about additions to the American Gods cast, additions that will add two new characters and replace Gillian Anderson’s Media with Kahyun Kim’s New Media. How will these additions and subtractions affect the show? We’ll have to wait until Marc 10th to find out.
