The much anticipated spookfest that is The Barn has found both a distributor and release date thanks to Gravitas Ventures and Gravitas has done more than make a promise, they’ve set a date. The Barn gets theatrical release on September 4th of this year but with that quick of a turnaround, word needs to spread quickly. So, consider this your notice!
The Barn is a creepy slasher flick set in the American South were a serial killer has arrived in the small town of Sugar Grove, Virginia. A young journalist sees this story as an opportunity to really push her career forward. She arrives and really starts digging, only to find the town holds secrets that reveal something much more sinister going on. Soon her career may not be the only thing in peril. Be careful what you wish for, I guess.
Matt Beaurois (Hardcore Henry) is taking the director’s chair this time, but is teaming up to write and produce with frequent collaborator Auregan (Five Minutes with Mary), who also stars and does the score. The cast is largely filled with lesser known actors, which will lend itself perfectly to the whole ‘strangers in the forest’ vibe.
This is truly indie horror, with much of the cast and crew wearing multiple hats and taking on varied roles. They do not list a production designer, art director, etc. One thing they didn’t skimp on was landing veteran make up effects artist David Scherer (Tokyo Grand Guignol, Love) to head up the practical effects. I can’t wait to soak up that independent spirit and see how they pull it off!
