In 2011, Benedict Cumberbatch wowed London audiences in the National Theater’s adaptation of Frankenstein. Directed by Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire), the show made huge headlines for its unique way of casting. Cumberbatch and co-star Johnny Lee Miller would, evening by evening, switch roles as Dr. Frankenstein and Frankenstein’s monster. The two actors, both famous for portraying Sherlock Holmes, went back and forth for the entire run of the show, giving audiences a different perspective on the two-man show.
The show was a world-famous hit, earning millions of viewers over the course of its run. Critics praised both actors for the dual roles. Sadly, the show never made it to the US. However, that doesn’t mean we won’t get to see it. This October, a film version of the Cumberbatch-starring show is headed to America.
Fathom Events, famous for its unique screening experiences, is bringing the masterful show stateside. The screenings are extremely limited, but that doesn’t make them less exciting. Fans will get a fully realized sense of the show, with one of the screenings starring Cumberbatch, and the other starring Miller. Cumberbatch takes on the role of the Creature on October 22nd. Miller becomes the monster on October 29th. You can head to the Fathom Events website now to purchase tickets. Be sure to hurry though. With Halloween fast approaching and Cumberbatch’s fanbase growing by the day, these tickets are sure to sell out quickly.
