This week Bill Hader sat down to chat with Conan O’Brien about the upcoming sequel to 2017’s It, or as Hader calls it, Its. The Saturday Night Live alum and all-around funny man is set to play the grown up Richie Tozier, who was made a fan favorite by Finn Wolfhard’s comedic performance as a young Richie.
Hader shed some light on what it’s like around the set of the upcoming film. Most of us have seen the fantastic photo of Hader and Bill Skarsgard (in full Pennywise makeup) laughing it up on set. But as Hader says, as soon as those cameras roll, Skarsgard is terrifying. But as scary as ‘ole Pennywise my be, apparently Hader has a terrible time acting scared. This is Hader’s first horror film after all. According to Hader, he has a real problem looking like he’s scared because he tends to smile nervously. Saying,
“This is my first horror movie, and I’m terrible at acting scared, apparently. When I’m scared, I think I smile. Like, I get nervous and I smile… We would do takes and the director Andy Muschetti would come and he’s like, ‘Bill, you need to be scared, man.’ I go, I was terrified! He goes, ‘No man, you’re smiling the whole time. What’s wrong with you?’ And it’s true.”
Honestly it sounds hilarious, and I’m sure if it comes through on-screen it’ll play well given the character’s comedic side.
It: Chapter Two follows the Losers Club 27 years after the events of the first film as they battle Pennywise yet again. Starring alongside the Bills, Hader and Skarsgard, are James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Jay Ryan, Isaiah Mustafa, James Ransone, and Andy Bean. And that’s in addition to all of the young actors who played the iconic Loser’s Club in the first film.
It: Chapter 2 enters theaters on September 6th, 2019. Are you ready for the return of Pennywise? Let us know what you think over on Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, and in the Horror Fiends of Nightmare on Film Street Facebook group!
