Growing up I was attracted to the villain or the anti-hero type characters in comics, books and film. It really hasn’t changed much, but that is beside the point. Sony was quite surprised to see there’s a lot of people like me out there with the success of last year’s Venom. It shouldn’t come as a shock that a sequel was green lit, especially when it seems like you’re going to incorporate his greatest villain Carnage. Yesterday, Deadline announced that another villain is going to be joining this film as well.
Returning in his role as Eddie Brock, the character inside of the alien symbiote Venom, is Tom Hardy. Previously it was revealed that Woody Harrelson is taking on the character of his greatest villain Cletus Kasady or better known as Carnage from a mid-credits scene in the previous film. This is still a presumption, but with a certain character being confirmed as a villain, I think this makes more sense. The news I’m referring to though is the character of Shriek will also be in Venom 2.
I’ll be honest, I don’t really remember this character, but from what I’ve been able to find, her alter ego is Frances Louise Barrison. Shriek is a drug dealer and serial killer who awakens her mutant power after a run in with another mutant. In the comics, she can control sound waves and also read minds. It also appears that she is the romantically linked to Carnage as well. We don’t know who will be playing Shriek as of yet. The only information is that the studio is going to cast the net out to see who is interested, but that is about it.
Something else that is quite interesting is that original director Ruben Fleischer will not be returning, but veteran creature actor Andy Serkis is taking over. Fleischer left to take over another Harrelson project in Zombieland: Double Tap. I’m definitely interested to see how this shakes out.
