It’s that time of year again, folks!
Ah yes, Halloween. Where the air is crisp and the leaves are as dead as my dreams (I’M FINE). It’s one of my favorite holidays, not only for the inherent darkness that I live for, but for the sheer weirdness of it all. It’s the one night a year when everyone delights in donning strange costumes. A time when all things horror are no longer considered “niche,” and we get to wear literal masks over our metaphorical ones (REALLY I’M FINE).
Arguably more fun than dressing up and gorging ourselves on Kit Kats, however, is seeing what our favorite celebrities dress up as. It’s always amusing to see pop culture figures paying homage to other pieces of popular culture, and this year is no exception. We still haven’t been treated to noted Halloween queen Heidi Klum’s costume (she’s likely waiting for Tuesday). But plenty of other stars have already gotten in on the fun, so let’s have a look at some of the best ones!
Jack Falahee (Eleven from STRANGER THINGS)
How to Get Away with Murder‘s Jack Falahee opted for a more topical getup, dressing as Eleven from Netflix’s Stranger Things, complete with pink dress and bloody nose. Do you think that’s the face he makes when trying to predict what sort of shenanigans Shonda Rhimes will cook up for him on HTGAWM?
Will Poulter (Sid from TOY STORY)
The Revenant‘s Will Poulter is not lost on the fact that he’s a dead ringer for Toy Story‘s villain Sid. But he actually had another reason for dressing as the notorious fictional bully; raising awareness of actual bullying by promoting AntiBullyingPro, for which he is an ambassador, in his Instagram post. Way to go Will!
Aubrey Plaza (Wednesday Addams)
Like Poulter, Aubrey Plaza also picked a costume she was practically born to wear; Wednesday Addams of The Addams Family. Plaza posted the photo on her Instagram with the cheerful caption “sunday brunch time!” and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t considering RSVP’ing.
Zoë Kravitz and Karl Glusman (Marla Singer and Tyler Durden from FIGHT CLUB)
In the wake of Big Little Lies‘ huge success, star Zoë Kravitz continues her winning streak with her spot-on rendition of Fight Club‘s Marla Singer, originally portrayed by Helena Bonham Carter. Joining her is The Neon Demon‘s Karl Glusman as none other than Tyler Durden. Bonus points granted for their use of props!
Bruce Willis and Stephen Eads (the twins from THE SHINING)
In a twist worthy of a Shyamalan film, Hollywood action star Bruce Willis went as one of the creepy twin girls from The Shining, with the help of his assistant Stephen Eads. And judging by those shoes, fancy wigs, and perfectly tailored dresses, this clearly had some planning put into it. Kudos, gentlemen. And thank you for not shaving because that might have ruined it (it would still be amazing actually).
Gwyneth Paltrow (her own head in a box from SE7EN)
The clear winner of Halloweekend, however, was Gwyneth Paltrow. The woman dressed as her own severed head in a box from the end of Se7en. Need I say more?
What are some of your favorite celeb costumes this year that I missed? Sound off below, fiends. And have a happy and safe Halloween!
