Dark Comic Book KILL OR BE KILLED Being Adapted for the Screen

This year, John Wick co-directer Chad Stahelski stepped up to the plate with the franchise’ follow-up, aptly named John Wick: Chapter 2. The film delivered to audiences exactly what they were after; A stoic, and violent Keanu Reeves in an fast and furious vigilante/hitman spree killing, redux. And now, teaming up with John Wick producer, Basil Iwanyk, they’ve set their sights on something a little darker; a film adaptation of Kill or Be Killed, the comic book from Winter Soldier creator Ed Brubaker.

THR reports, Dan Casey, who previously adapted the Brubaker comic Incognito, is attached to write the script. Iwanyk will produce with Erica Lee of the duo’s Thunder Road, the company behind awards contender Wind River as well as the John Wick franchise. Jeff Waxman (mother!) is also producing. Brubaker will act as executive producer.

Kill or be Killed follows a depressed college student who, after a failed suicide attempt, is visited by a demon who explains that he was the one who spared the student’s life. The demon charged a hefty fee for his services;the young man will be allowed to live one month for every person he kills.

Artwork for Kill or Be Killed is =by Sean Phillips, which is currently being published by Image Comics.

Official synopsis of the comic:

“The bestselling team of ED BRUBAKER and SEAN PHILLIPS (THE FADE OUT, CRIMINAL, FATALE) launch their new monthly series: KILL OR BE KILLED, the twisted story of a young man who is forced to kill bad people, and how he struggles to keep his secret as it slowly ruins his life and the lives of his friends and loved ones. Both a thriller and a deconstruction of vigilantism, KILL OR BE KILLED is unlike anything BRUBAKER & PHILLIPS have ever done.”

Kill or Be Killed will be tacked on to a growing list of projects for Chad Stahelski. He is currently in pre-production on John Wick: Chapter 3, and he is also attached to direct the Highlander remake.
