Zombies fans, pick your ears up off the floor and listen! Day of the Dead: Bloodline has just released a new clip from the upcoming film through Rue Morgue Magazine. Described as a re-imagining of George A Romero‘s classic, the new film similarly follows a small group of military personnel and survivalists hiding out in an underground bunker. Working to find a cure to the outbreak that has overrun the world with flesh eating monsters, they group slowly realizes that the real threat has been locked inside with them all along. Remakes and reboots of classic films typically fall under scrutiny but if there’s one thing zombie fans want, it’s more!
Day of the Dead: Bloodline is directed by Hèctor Hernández Vicens (The Corpse of Anna Fritz) with a script from Mark Tonderai (The House at the End of The Street) and Lars Jacobson. Sophie Skelton, Johnathon Schaech, Jeff Gum star with Marcus Vanco, Mark Rhino Smith and Lillian Blankenship rounding out the cast.
DAY OF THE DEAD: BLOODLINE is set in a post-apocalyptic, zombie-filled world where a former med school student is tormented by a dark figure from her past. The only thing is, he’s a half-human, half-zombie hell-bent on destroying her world.
George A Romero’s Day of the Dead is highly regarded one of the most influential zombie films in horror history. Originally released in 1985, it is the third film in Romero’s Night of the Living Dead series. Connections to the political climate of the time has remained a constant in zombie flicks and according to Romero himself, the film is a “tragedy about how a lack of human communication causes chaos and collapse even in this small little pie slice of society“. Bloodline promises to expand on the themes presented in the original in this bold reinterpretation.
Day of the Dead: Bloodline is scheduled to land on VOD and digital platforms January 5, 2018. Are you adding this new zombie flick to your 2018 watch list? Let us know in the comments below!
