Desolation is a new horror thriller film from IFC Midnight, and hits select theaters and digital services in the US on December 15th. In the film, a grieving mother and son must learn to face their fears, all whilst being followed by a mysterious hiker in the woods. Or are they being hunted? This lost-in-the-wilderness flick is reminiscent of recent indie releases The Ritual and The Endless. We’ve got your first look at the new trailer of Desolation, above.

Desolation is the feature directorial debut by director Sam Patton and was written by Michael Larson-Kangas and Matt Anderson. The film stars Jaimi Paige (Peacock), Alyshia Ochse (Home Sweet Hell), Claude Duhamel (Valentine), and Toby Nichols (Chasing Ghosts) and was produced by Patton, Lauren Bates, Kim Patton and Mara Barr. E. Thomas Fernandez and Michael Murdock served as executive producers.

After the death of her husband, Abby (Jaimi Page), her son, Sam (Toby Nichols) and best friend, Jen (Alyshia Ochse), venture into the forests of upstate NY on a camping trip, only to find themselves in danger from a mysterious hiker (Claude Duhamel) with malicious intentions. As the trio attempts to navigate the vast wilderness in search of safety, they find themselves the hunted prey in a deranged killer’s terrifying game and the only way to survive is to kill – or be killed.

Desolation had its world premiere at the Los Angeles Film Festival in June. In addition to the above trailer, we’ve also got a clip from the film that gives a glimpse of the “weird dude” that is following the family through the woods. Read on for the clip and the film’s official poster.

The film will receive a limited theatrical and VOD release on December 15th. Let us know what you think in the comments below!
