The remake of Suspiria is gaining some notable praise. The likes of Chlöe Grace Moretz and most recently, Quentin Tarantino are speaking of the remake highly.
Last month, Suspiria star Chlöe Grace Moretz raved to Indiewire on the strength of the new remake calling it “The closest to modern Stanley Kubrick” she’s ever seen. If that was bold a reaction enough, the story thickens. Suspiria’s director, Luca Guadagnino has shown the entire film to friend Quentin Tarantino to gain some insight from the screen veteran and he got just that.
In an interview with Italian magazine La Repubblica Guadagnino told them how Tarantino openly wept after watching the film.

“I was nervous but eager to hear his advice. We saw it at his place and his reaction warmed me.”
The director went on to add.
“He was enthusiastic about it – in the end, he was crying and hugged me. Because it’s a horror movie but also a melodrama, my goal was to make you look at the horror without being able to take [your eyes off the screen] because you’re captivated by the characters. Amazon is very happy.”
Suspiria is being made by Amazon films and is a remake of Italian director Dario Argento’s 1979 film of the same name. Staring Dakota Johnson, Chloë Grace Moretz, Mia Goth and Tilda Swinton, It follows an American ballet student who, after enrolling at a revered dance school run by the mysterious Madame Blanc, soon discovers dark secrets abound.
Thoughts on Suspiria
There are obviously those sceptical of the remake of a much beloved film. This information has certainly got to pique interest in the project even from the most sceptical. When Tarantino of all people openly weeps and gives praise to Guadagnino, film fans can’t help but pay attention. Remakes have a tough time in winning over the more cynical cinema goers. Many remakes in history have been just as good as the original film, some even surpassing them. It’s hyperbolic to say this of Suspiria this early, but it’s certainly positive. I have to say personally, this makes me very excited to see Suspiria.
Suspiria will be released in the U.S.on November 2nd this year. How do we feel about these developments? Are we getting excited for Suspiria? Let us know your thoughts over on our Twitter and on our Reddit.
