Ed and Lorraine Warren are the heart of New Line’s The Conjuring franchise. Having appeared in the titular franchise’s first film and its sequel, Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson’s portrayals of the Warrens have cemented them as the franchise’s heart. They will be making their first appearance in a spinoff as they will be returning to their artifact’s room in the upcoming second sequel to Annabelle, tentatively titled Annabelle 3, Deadline reports.

Annabelle 3 will feature the Warrens’ ten year old daughter, Judy, who along with her babysitter and a friend, will face off against the evils of the doll. It’s been reported that the demon inhabiting Annabelle will possess many of the Warrens‘ artifacts, wrecking havoc and doing spooky things. Back in June at San Diego Comic Con, James Wan, creator of The Conjuring universe, stated that “Annabelle basically activates all the other haunted artifacts in that room. So, it’s basically A Night at the Museum, with Annabelle!” I love when Annabelle causes spooky things! The last time the Warrens faced off theatrically against the possessed doll was in The Conjuring when they wrangled the doll from two nurses who were being terrorized by the doll’s hazardous shenanigans.

Mckenna Grace, who can be seen killing it in Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House as young Theodora Crain, will be portraying Judy Warren. Madison Iseman (Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween) is also reported to have a role, presumably as the teenage babysitter.

Annabelle 3 has been written by Gary Dauberman, who was a part of writing It Chapters One + Two, and the premiere Annabelle film. Annabelle 3 will be his directorial debut. James Wan will be producing through his Atomic Monster banner while Peter Safran will be producing through The Safran Company.

While the report states that the Warrens will only be supporting characters, it will be awesome to see them on the big screen before they takeover the universe when The Conjuring 3 hits a possible 2020 release date.
