Great news for fans of The Evil Dead, a new 4K restoration is coming out soon. The 1981 cult classic is a hit among horror fans in all of its low budget glory, and this new restoration will show you the limitations of Sam Raimi’s budget like never before! This new edition from Lionsgate will be available on 4K Ultra Blu-Ray on October 9th, 2018 in 2160op UHD resolution and Dolby Vision HDR. A much appreciated upgrade.
Sadly, if you are looking for a bunch of extras, it doesn’t sound like much will be availablet this time around. The only extra reported will be a commentary track featuring writer/director Sam Raimi, producer Robert Taper and, of course, star/executive producer Bruce Campbell. This sounds like a must have for fans to get much deeper insight into this low budget masterpiece from the people that made the film some 37 years ago.
The Evil Dead franchise definitely needed some good news after the recent cancellation of the Ash vs. The Evil Dead television series. Fans were heartbroken to discover the show had been cancelled just as the 3rd season was coming to a close. And in all likelihood, the season 3 finale marked the final time audiences will see Bruce Campbell portray the chainsaw-wielding demon buster, Ash Williams.
This new edition of The Evil Dead isn’t the only good news though. This announcement is coming on the heels of more special edition announcements. The 4K Steelbook of Evil Dead 2 would pair nicely with a 4K of the original, wouldn’t it? Both will be available in time for Halloween, or Christmas, or whatever. What I’m trying to say folks is that these re-releases look pretty groovy. Shop Smart, Fiends.
