There has been a lot of buzz about the upcoming Hellboy reboot from Neil Marshall, this is to be expected with such a beloved franchise. Fans and creeps everywhere have been treated to plenty of talk around the casting, the direction of the film, but more importantly how faithful the film will be to the source material.
In recent news, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola spoke on how the 2019 film will stay close to the source material, pulling directly from specific story arcs in the comics. This would include a much darker tone in comparison to the previous films from Guillermo del Toro. Now it appears that the marketing for the film is going full force on emphasizing that factor.
Milla Jovovich, who is set to star as the lead antagonist Nimue (The Blood Queen) in Hellboy, has posted a photo showing the first bit of this marketing approach. The actress went to Instagram to share with the world a promotional banner depicting the first bit of “guerilla” marketing. Hanging high on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles, the banner showcases the art style signature of Mike Mignola, along with the Dark Horse Comics logo. On it, a grimacing Hellboy looking onward to Nimue, the Blood Queen.
The Blood Queen has risen.
Javovich’s post has continued on the recent news for the upcoming Hellboy reboot, setting high anticipation for fans. Surely, this will be the first in a long line of marketing tactics, emphasizing the focus on the source material.
Hellboy will follow close to the three miniseries; Darkness Calls, The Wild Hunt, and The Storm and the Fury. David Harbour will don the right fist of doom with Milla Jovovich as the Blood Queen herself. The film will also star Ian McShane, Daniel Dae Kim, Penelope Mitchell, Sophie Okonedo, Brian Gleeson and Alistair Petrie.
Hellboy will be hitting the big screen January 11, 2019 and directed by Neil Marshall.
