If you find movies starring giant sharks a toothsome delight, then The Meg just might make your summer. With anticipation high for movies such as Solo and something called The Infinity War, I’d like to draw your attention to the water. There, lying in wait like the titular beast is a movie that promises super-sized shark insanity. And Jason Statham.
Lurking beneath an unpromising title lies the 70 ft answer to your shark nightmares, Carcharodon Megalodon. The Meg stars Expendables star Jason Statham as former Naval diver Jonas Taylor. Following a submarine’s deep-sea tussle with an unknown beast, the crew is trapped. Taylor, one of the world’s best rescue divers is hired by genius oceanographer Dr. Zhang, against the wishes of the latter’s daughter to rescue the crew from prehistoric giant shark, the Megalodon.
However, unbeknownst to Zhang, this isn’t Taylor’s first smackdown with the aquatic terror. Years prior, Taylor had encountered this same monster, and come off the worst. Now, teamed with Zhang’s daughter, he must fight his understandable fear to save those trapped in the ailing sub. Before they too, fall victim to The Meg’s insatiable hunger.
Judging by the creature in these new photos, the crew would be nothing but hors-d’oeuvres to the Megalodon. This thing is huge, and this movie looks as though it’s going to be a monster-sized slice of fun.
The Meg is the long-awaited adaptation of author Steve Alten’s debut novel “Meg: A Novel Of Deep Terror”. Alten recently described the trailers for the movie on his Facebook page:
“I’ve actually seen the two trailers and they are excellent.”
With National Treasure director John Turtletaub calling the shots, and with such stars as Statham and Rainn Wilson, The Meg indeed looks excellent. Longmire lead Robert Taylor also stars.
Warner Brothers unleash The Meg on August 10th 2018.
