Just a month after the news of a Part IV Jason and Map coming to Friday the 13th The Game, publisher Illfonic has brought slasher gamers an update on the highly anticipated story-mode for the game. Along with this update the publisher has provided a road map for future content coming to the slasher game of cat and mouse.
In a forum post on the game’s website, a representative from Illfonic addresses many of the concerns that have plagued the game since it’s release. Many players on the Xbox platform have reported many issues concerning matchmaking, player connectivity, and patches coming at infrequent intervals (in comparison to the PS4 and PC versions). These concerns are touched on in the statement from the representative of Illfonic, detailing the difficulties of the platform’s process for releasing patches;
By mid-end of August we were able to go into cert with the memory leak fixed but ended up failing because of lobby issues and a few other crashes/stability… We got a ton of great feedback and were able to resolve a number of bugs quickly which we were then able to roll out on PS4 and PC but ended up getting blocked on Xbox… Again, there is nothing we can do about the cert process but right now we are moving forward with bug fixing rolling at ASAP on any platform but new content coming out together on all three platforms. This is still tough to do but this is what we are going to attempt.
Details addressing the anticipated ‘story mode’ for were also discussed in the post. The story mode is noted to be behind schedule as it was originally set for a Summer 2017 release. This delay is noted to be due to the ongoing problems with the game. Illfonic and Gun Media wanting to correct these issues before adding more content onto the game. Illfonic does assure layers though, that now that these issues have been worked on, that we will see the single player come within the year.
Currently we are behind on the Summer date. There are number of reasons why this is, but it all boils down to making sure we are not releasing new content while still having issues with the core game. There were a number of issues we needed to address with the games stability prior to committing additional resources to making Single Player happen. We now feel we have turned that corner and have doubled down on Single Player to try and catch up.
To assure players that new content is on the horizon, the publisher and developer have also posted a road map to ensure players of what to expect in the oncoming months.
New content is definitely down the road (get it?) as we can see content that has already come or confirmed for the game. Content we are already familiar with (new outfits, Retro Jason, Fast Paced Maps) are shown to be already in the distance with a definite YOU ARE HERE placed on the map. Thanks to the map and confirmation from Illfonic/Gun Media we can rest assured that the content we can expect (Part IV Jason and Jarvis House Map) along with new emotes, new counselors, and some new kills (hopefully gory!) coming.
Although there are no clear dates for us to determine when we will see each of these content, notable icons of a Pumpkin and Snowflake are placed on the map. Players can expect to see plenty of content through the last part of the year leading up to what could be Halloween and Christmas. Could we see possible content drops on these holidays? Perhaps a content drop on the upcoming Friday the 13th this October along with the physical release? Nothing is certain but Gun Media and Illfonic are definitely reassuring players that they are continuing their hard work on the game and new content for players to die for.
What content do you want to see brought to Friday the 13th The Game? The map shows that we can certainly expect more Jason variants, new game modes, more counselors to chop or slice, and more maps to creep in. What Jasons do you want to see stalking counselors in the woods of Camp Crystal Lake? (Jason X skin please! …I can hope.)
