Two brand spanking new images just got released from the Grudge reboot that’s set to drop early next year. This is our first look so far regarding anything from in the movie, and while there’s only two pictures, they say a lot. Check them out on Entertainment Weekly, who got the exclusive on the images this week.

Before I say a lot about them though, let me give you guys a run down of the plot synopsis and a quote from the director (which you can also read in my first ever article for this site) about the movie.

The plot synopsis is as follows:

“After a young mother murders her family in her own house, a single mother and detective tries to investigate and solve the case. Later, she discovers the house is cursed by a vengeful ghost that dooms those who enter it with a violent death.”

Now for the quote from director Nicholas Pesce:

“I think that horror audiences these days are looking for a much more grounded, much more realistic, much more character-driven story in their horror movies,” Pesce said. “The new movie is set up a lot more like Seven, that sort of movie.”

So now with all that said and out of the way, let’s get to the pictures. When Pesce says that his version of the movie is inspired by films such as Seven (1995) I can see that very clearly through these images. They’ve got a gritty and almost realistic feeling to them, like I’m honestly surprised this is even going to be a ghost movie. It looks to me like a gritty cop thriller. So congrats to Pesce for hitting his target.

The images are pretty brutal to say the least, primarily the one with the bloody woman outside the car. If I was a betting man, which I’m not, but if I was I’d say that the woman is probably the mom who killed her family. If this thing is going for a psychological angle, which it clearly is from Pesce’s statement, then it’s most likely that the mother was drove to madness and murder by the spirit haunting her home.
