Get HURLED THROUGH FIRE in New WICKER MAN Roller Coaster!

In my opinion this has to be some of the strangest horror related news to come along in quite some time. It was announced this past Sunday that United Kingdom’s popular theme park Alton Towers will be opening a Wicker Man roller coaster this spring. Yes, you read that correctly. A Wicker Man roller coaster.

The ride is currently under construction and will be the first wooden roller coaster to built in Britain in over twenty years. According to this article by Entertainment Weekly, the 2028-foot track will take cars of thrill seekers through “a 58-foot-tall humanoid figure reminiscent of the structure that appears at the end of both films. Riders will seemingly blast through the towering formation at high speed while fire and lighting effects flare up around them.”

The Wicker Man roller coaster is based on the classic 1973 film of the same name.

Film synopsis:

Sergeant Howie (Edward Woodward) arrives on the small Scottish island of Summerisle to investigate the report of a missing child. A conservative Christian, the policeman observes the residents’ frivolous sexual displays and strange pagan rituals, particularly the temptations of Willow (Britt Ekland), daughter of the island magistrate, Lord Summerisle (Christopher Lee). The more Sergeant Howie learns about the islanders’ strange practices, the closer he gets to tracking down the missing child.

The original film was followed by a poorly received remake starring Nicholas Cage in 2006 and a sequel, The Wicker Tree, in 2011.

The Wicker Man coaster is set to open Spring 2018. If I was anywhere near Alton Towers I would want to be there opening weekend. I think it sounds like a blast.
