What We Do in the Shadows has grown to be a horror/comedy phenomenon since its release back in 2014. The New Zealand-based vampire mockumentary film was written, directed and starred Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi. The two first made their acquaintance with American audiences via their HBO show Flight of the Conchords before bringing their comedy into the horror genre. It was only a matter of time before a proper sequel was announced, and it came in the format of a series with fresh vampires and a new apartment space, premiering later this month on FX.

After the first teaser earlier this month, fans have been treated with a bunch of What We Do in the Shadows series teasers and scene-snippets, just enough to satiate our hunger before the release.

The show will follow three vampires living in New York who have been “roommates for hundreds and hundreds of years”. For those who’ve had roommates in the past and know how you eventually get annoyed by the little things. Increase that exponentially for hilarity. The cast is composed of Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), Guillermo (Harvey Guillen) and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch).

This mockumentary style was made famous with shows like The Office, Parks and Recreation and Modern Family. I’ll admit there’s times I’ll look away from someone like there’s a camera following me and make a face like some of my favorite characters on shows like this in real-life. It’s a great format for comedy and will be an interesting way to  allow the ‘vampires’ of the show to confirm or debunk their mythology. From what I’ve seen, they will be able to share some funny stories as well.
