Since the success of Split, fans have been patiently waiting for any news coming from the anticipated third chapter, Glass. In April, those lucky enough to attend CinemaCon got a first taste of what’s to come in Glass. It’s been exciting following the progress of the film as more news emerges. Most of this comes from director M. Night Shyamalan himself, who has been regularly tweeting updates from script drafts, to film edits (pass #8 according to his last update). Being the gracious man he is, Mr. Shyamalan released the the official poster for the movie after announcing the trailer will be premiering at ComicCon.
What I find interesting about the Glass poster is that it’s no longer hiding the fact that it’s a grounded, genre-based superhero movie. Unbreakable was a restrained origin story, only revealing that it was a superhero movie in the last act. Split was marketed as a thriller, with no hints at it being a sequel whatsoever until the end. But being the third movie, it’s no longer a secret and the poster proves that, showcasing each character as refelctions of themselves within the universe.
Following the conclusion of SPLIT, GLASS finds David Dunn pursuing Kevin Wendell Crumb’s superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Elijah Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.
Glass hits theatres January 18, 2019, but fans can expect to see the first trailer in just a few short weeks. With a strong foundation, a star-studded cast, a sweet poster and Shyamalan seemingly back in his groove the past couple years: there is a lot to be excited for when it comes to Glass.
