News has been trickling in on the highly anticipated adaptation of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Originally a trilogy of horror novels, the series has become somewhat of a phenomenon. Perhaps because they served as the collective nightmare fuel of our childhoods. And with Guillermo del Toro at the helm of the film adaptation, it’s shaping up to be an authentic journey into the pen-scratch horror stories that once haunted us. (Let’s be real. Still haunt us. )

And now, we have word that the cast of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark has been unveiled. The film will star Michael Garza (Wayward Pines), Austin Abrams (Brad’s Status), Gabriel Rush (Moonrise Kingdom), Austin Zajur (Fist Fight), and Natalie Ganzhorn (Make it Pop).

The film will be directed by André Øvredal (The Autopsy of Jane DoeTrollhunter).Kevin Hageman and Dan Hageman (LEGO Movie, Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia) co-wrote the screenplay with del Toro, Patrick Melton & Marcus Dunstan from the bestselling trilogy of books by Alvin Schwartz. Scary Stories to Tell in The Dark is being produced by Guillermo del Toro as well as Sean Daniel and Jason Brown of Hivemind along with J. Miles Dale and Elizabeth Grave.

Our first official word on the plot is still vague, telling that Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark “follows a group of teens who must solve the mystery surrounding a wave of spectacularly horrific deaths in their small town.”

“We spent months searching for and assembling the perfect group of actors to help us realize the most terrifying adaptation that we could conceive,” commented André Øvredal.  Guillermo del Toro agreed, adding, “I am honored to support Andre’s vision and, with our partners, to bring the incredible world of SCARY STORIES to the screen.”

Production on Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark will begin this week.  Mark Ross and Alex Ginno are overseeing the project for CBS Films which will distribute the film in the US as part of their ongoing partnership with global content leader Lionsgate.

What was your favorite story from the novels? Any you think will make it into the film?
