Oh Hell Yeah! Finally after a long wait the official Hellboy (2019) trailer has been released! Audiences have been teased with the upcoming reboot since May of 2017 – and it is good to see him back in action. After watching the trailer it is plain to see that director Neil Marshall (The Descent, Doomsday) will continue Hellboy’s legacy with plenty of blood, violence and action!
Based on the graphic novels by Mike Mignola, Hellboy, caught between the worlds of the supernatural and human, battles an ancient sorceress bent on revenge.
Even dripping in gore and violence, Hellboy, portrayed in the reboot by David Harbour (Stranger Things), also looks to have a lot of comedy throughout. Don’t’ let this fool you though because the trailer also includes plenty of darkness to counter the comedic elements. There is a shot of him straight up shooting someone in the head with blood exploding toward the screen. Hello, Hellboy! Another scene shows a huge demon throwing someone in the air and slicing them in half, making a spray of bloody bits.
The best part? Nightmare on Film Street Contributor Grant DeArmitt got the scoop back at NYCC that the majority of the effects in the film are practical, not CGI. “It’s a monster movie,” said David Harbour, “You know, it’s straight out of Frankenstein, just updated for 2018.” Harbour described several scenes in the film in which two practical monsters would be speaking with each other. “There’s a weight to that you can feel,” he said, praising the visual warmth of a practical, makeup-driven monster. The actor went on to say that his character wouldn’t be CGI, “like [Avengers: Infinity Wars] Thanos.” When the audience laughed at the accidental “shade throwing,” Harbour clarified: “Not that there’s anything wrong with that!”
Some of the creatures Hellboy will be going against include winged demons, trolls and a very sinister looking Mila Jovovich playing Nimue the Blood Queen.
