HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 3 Takes To The Sea In First Teaser Trailer

Universal’s Dark Universe may be dead in the water, but classic monster fans can rejoice: The Drac Pack is back! Sony Pictures Animation dropped the first trailer for Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation today. Take a look, above.

Beauty and the Feast

In the newest entry to the Hotel Transylvania series, Mavis plans a luxury monster cruise for her family and friends. While vacationing, Dear old Drac falls for the ship’s captain Ericka, who just so happens to be a descendant of Van Helsing, the legendary monster hunter himself. Frankly, that might sink everyone’s chances for a happy trip. Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, and the rest of the main cast from Hotel Transylvania 2 will be returning.

Also back on board is series director Genndy Tartakovsky. Although previously stating that two films was enough for him, Tartakovsky says a “miserable” family vacation was inspiring, as well as the National Lampoon’s Vacation series starring Chevy Chase. He will be helming this most recent installment, as well as sharing writing credit with Michael McCullers. Mark Mothersbaugh is doing the score, fresh off his successes of Thor: Ragnarok and The David S. Pumpkins Halloween Special.

Sony was originally going to make this a September opening, but Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation now has a release date of July 13th, 2018 (and yes, it’s a Friday). The film was originally scheduled for September 21st. However, the studio made a change so that the Jack Black Goosebumps sequel could take that date.

Between three films and a TV series, Hotel Transylvania is Sony’s most successful animated franchise. Not to mention the theme park attraction and all the merchandise floating around, of course. For fans of the previous films, this summer vacation caper looks to be a refreshing change of scenery. Family vacation: It will suck the life out of you.

I inserted five water/boating puns into this piece. A new personal best.
