90s kids beware… you’re in for a scare!
Well, probably not, but that doesn’t make the release of the official trailer for Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween any less exciting. Especially considering the film has been in production hell. It was delayed several times before finally starting filming earlier this year.
The original Goosebumps (released in 2015) was of course inspired by R L Stine’s best-selling horror series for kids. But it didn’t stay loyal to just one book. Instead, the film took characters and settings from a few books in the Goosebumps series to create an original story. (And no doubt increase the scare factor.) It also made more than $150 million at the international box office.
It looks like Goosebumps 2 will also take its inspiration from multiple books, with Slappy returning as the main villain. We also get a new cast of tweens battling the things that go bump in the night, including IT’s Jeremy Ray Taylor.
This is the first official trailer that’s been released for Goosebumps 2. Last month, Sony delighted fans by releasing a teaser trailer. And prior to that in April, they confirmed the film would be called Haunted Halloween and not Horrorland, Slappy’s Revenge or Slappy Halloween, as previously reported.
Goosebumps 2 will center on two boys who face an onslaught from witches, monsters, ghouls and a talking dummy after they discover a mysterious book by author R L Stine, which… doesn’t sound too different from the first film if you ask me. But hey, if it ain’t broke why fix it?
Sadly, it looks like Jack Black won’t be reprising his role as R L Stine. It’s unclear if he’ll come back to voice Slappy, as he did in the first film. But either way there should be plenty here to keep fans happy; I spotted characters from:
- Night of the Living Dummy
- The Werewolf of Fever Swamp
- Attack of the Jack-O-Lanterns
- The Headless Ghost
- The Abominable Snowman of Pasadena; and
- A Shocker on Shock Street
There were also a few ghoulies I couldn’t quite place, including the aforementioned killer gummy bears and swarm of creepy-looking witches.
Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween is set to hit theatres October 12th. What characters from your favourite Goosebumps book are you hoping to see?
