As if we don’t have enough excitement over October’s arrival already, here’s one more reason to be counting down the days! Hulu has announced a partnership with Blumhouse Television to deliver a 12 episode horror series, Into the Dark. On on the first Friday of each month, a new “super-sized unique thriller” will premiere.
The first episode of Into the Dark will begin on Friday, October 5th and will be called The Body. Each installment of the show will feature the holiday of the month the episode is released in. (So, the premiere episode being released in October would most likely mean we can expect a Halloween theme). Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions stated, “We want Hulu’s audience wondering every month, ‘What scary holiday will be next?'”
Marci Wiseman, co-president of Blumhouse Television goes on to say, “Hulu’s commitment to create episodic installments of an anthology series and to event-ize each of them… you don’t get that kind of commitment from partners very often, and we’re really excited and enthused.”
Into The Dark sounds ambitious and promising, not to mention one-of-a-kind. Releasing a new story each month is a rather different change of pace. Normally fans of streaming content are accustomed to binging a series when it releases. But the idea of having a new horror story to delve into each month is an exciting prospect.
According to Joel Stillerman, Hulu’s chief content officer,
“At the heart of the deal is an extremely passionate audience and an extremely activateable audience in terms of horror. I would say this falls squarely into the horror bucket. And it’s brought to us by, I would say in many ways that would be hard to argue, the consummate producers in that genre today.”
