Andy Muschietti’s IT, known ’round these parts as THE HIGHEST GROSSING R-RATED HORROR FILM OF ALL TIME, will see a sequel September 6, 2019. It’s not unheard of to announce plans for a sequel while a film is still playing in theatres, but we can now pencil in our calendars exactly when Pennywise will return. Released a few short weeks ago, IT has broken box office record after box office record. As of this writing, IT has earned $266,096,375 Domestically ($478,096,375 Worldwide), making it one of the most profitable films of 2017 after a modest budget of only $35 million.

Andy Muschetti is expected to return as director, with expected producers Barbara Muschietti, Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Seth Grahame-Smith, and David Katzenberg. Also returning, is screenwriter Gary Dauberman, according to Hollywood Reporter. Though details of IT: Chapter 2 have not been announced, fans of the Stephen King novel and Tommy Wallace’s tv-movie adaptation already know what to expect. In contrast to the first half of the IT story, Chapter 2 will likely follow the Losers Club as they return to Derry, Maine to defeat Pennywise 27 years later.
