Some exciting news for fans of The Conjuring series! Producer James Wan has confirmed plot details of the upcoming Conjuring 3 film to Bloody Disgusting. Not that this should been as bad news, but if you are expecting more of the same, it isn’t necessarily what we are going to get. according to Wan, “It’s not necessarily based on an artifact but it’s based on one of the Warrens’ case files”.
The Conjuring 3 is still from the real case files of Ed and Lorraine Warren, as all of the films in the main franchise have done. The Conjuring 3 follows a man on trial for murder though his defense is that he committed his crime while possessed. There isn’t any word yet who the man on trial would be, but this is an interesting concept and similar to horror darling The Exorcism of Emily Rose.
This most recent installment also marks the first that Wan is not directing himself. Michael Chaves will take over that role while Wan will, or course, stay on as producer. The two worked together when Chaves directed Wan’s The Curse of La Llorona slated for release in theaters April 19th, 2019. David Leslie Johnson (The Conjuring 2) is also back to pen the third film with Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprising their roles as married ghostbusters Ed and Lorraine Warren.
It makes sense with how busy Wan is that he would put this new film in capable hands. The Conjuring 3 isn’t the only film in that universe he has in the works. With The Crooked Man and the next installment in the Annabelle currently in development, we can expect this universe to keep expanding!
