Details have recently been announced regarding the vinyl release of Jóhann Jóhannsson’s beautiful score for Mandy. This 80’s infused, Nicolas Cage heavy, revenge-action-horror-thriller is one that has been getting a ton of hype over the past year and the score is definitely a component in that mix. Jóhannsson composed the film music in conjunction with Randall Dunn as one of his last works before Jóhannsson sadly passed on February 9th of this year. Stephen O’Malley of the infamous Sunn O))) also plays guitar on the score.

Lakeshore Records in partnership with Invada Records will be producing the vinyl in three forms:

  • An Invada Mail Order Exclusive Clear Vinyl version will only be available from Invada directly
  • A Black 180g vinyl version will be available at retail locations worldwide
  • A Translucent Red vinyl version will also be available at retail locations worldwide

Invada and Lakeshore always pay special attention to packaging and this release is no exception. Designed by John Bergin, the jacket is printed on reverse board for a matte finish with a gloss spot varnish finish on the cover. Interior artwork was done by artist Julie Bell and contains liner notes from Mandy director, Panos Cosmatos. After news of Jóhannsson’s death, Cosmatos had this to say about working with the famous composer:

Jóhann went above and beyond, and I suspect to the limits of his sanity, to make the music for this movie. His words and his actions made him more than a great collaborator, they made him like a brother to me. I’m sad our time together was so brief but I’m very proud of what he accomplished on Mandy and I believe he was too.

You’ll be able to pick up copies from your local record store when it hit shelves on September 21st. The special Clear vinyl Invada Exclusive version will be available on their site September 14th to coincide with the digital release of the soundtrack, as well as the movie’s US release date.
