It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly 15 years since Buffy Summers and the rest of the Scooby Gang were fighting the forces of evil on television. However, the fight has continued off screen in the world of comic books. Since 2007, Buffy the Vampire Slayer comics have continued the story of Buffy and her many cohorts. Recently, it’s been announced that Buffy creator Joss Whedon is returning the world of Buffy as co-writer for Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 12: The Reckoning.
While Whedon (The Avengers, Cabin in the Woods) was involved in the initial few seasons of the comic, he hasn’t been involved since 2011’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Nine. Along with longtime Buffy writer Christos Gage, Whedon will be writing this next chapter of the series for Dark Horse Comics.

As far as the story line is concerned, here is a synopsis of what fans can look forward to courtesy of Dark Horse:
Following the world-altering finale of Season 11, Buffy and the Scoobies have had a laid-back year in the saving-the-world department. But as they’ve learned over their years of fighting the forces of darkness and thwarting many an apocalypse, nothing stays quiet for long. When Dawn and Xander’s housewarming party is crashed by some familiar faces with news of an amassing force that must be reckoned with—Wolfram & Hart, a legion of demons, and Harth, a vampire from the future—Buffy finds herself in a time warp that could alter the fate of the world and could spell the end for Buffy, her friends, and the Slayers, forever.
The comic will be illustrated by Georges Jeantry who hasn’t been involved since Season 8 of the series. Fans can also look forward to three beautiful variant covers of the first issue created by Stephanie Hans, Karl Story/Georges Jeantry/Dan Jackson, and Karl Moline.
One cover even shows Buffy holding a baby which leads to so many questions! Reported to be a short, 4 issue series, the first one will be going on sale June 20th, 2018. Preorders will be starting in March so make sure and let your local comic book store know and snag your self a copy.
