News continues to roll in regarding next year’s long-awaited Halloween sequel!
Deadline has reported that Judy Greer is currently in negotiation to star in the David Gordon Green film, slated for October 2018. Green would be cast as (POSSIBLE SPOILERS) Laurie Strode’s daughter, Karen Strode! While nothing is confirmed yet, discussions appear to be far enough along that Green’s addition to the cast is likely.
There’s a lot to analyze (or overanalyze) here. Casting Judy Greer as the new character Karen Strode falls in line with Green and co-writer Danny McBride’s previous statements regarding the new franchise timeline. They stated the new film will follow the original Halloween II, ignoring every sequel thereafter. This would effectively erase Danielle Harris’s role as Laurie’s daughter Jamie Lloyd in films 4-6, and it doesn’t stop there. The move would also remove Josh Hartnett as her son, John Tate, as seen in Halloween H20. Perhaps they will still exist in the new timeline, but it’s worth noting that director and Halloween creator John Carpenter left the Michael Myers storyline after Halloween II. With Carpenter having direct involvement this go-around, following the original storyline seems imminent.
While Judy Greer has already had a long and successful career in film, her work has definitely exploded as of late. Set to star in Clint Eastwood’s The 15-17 to Paris, Greer has also been a part of recent Hollywood blockbusters Jurassic World, War for the Planet of the Apes, and Ant-Man. Pending negotiations, she can add evading Michael Myers to her resume!
The untitled Halloween sequel is set to hit theaters October 19th, 2018.
