The sequel to The Boy has been announced from from STXfilms and Lakeshore Entertainment and Katie Holmes (Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, 2010) is set to star.

Well fiends, the sequel to the 2016 sleeper hit The Boy is on the way. Director William Brent Bell is to return for helming duties on The Boy 2  and the original films’ writer, Stacey Minear is set to return to pen the sequel. One of the biggest pieces of news to drop on the project recently is its lead. The project has recently secured Katie Holmes to star.

The Boy (2016) follows a young woman who takes a job as a nanny for an 8-year-old boy in a remote English village. To her surprise, she learns that the child is in fact a life-size doll called Brahms. Brahms parents care for the doll as if it was human, which helps the couple to cope with the death of their own son 20 years earlier. It’s not long before a series of disturbing and inexplicable events bring her worst fears to life, leading her to believe that the doll is alive. The Boy made a respectable $68 million worldwide over a $15 million budget.

Co-producer of the film Lucchesi expressed in a statement:

“Following the success of The Boy we are thrilled to be working on the next chapter of this chilling Brahms story with Stacey and William. We are also delighted to be continuing our relationship with STX, on this, our third partnership.”

I sure wasn’t expecting this announcement. I was one of the people who actually quite enjoyed The Boy so to hear that a sequel is on the way is pretty cool news. It’s also pretty cool to hear the film’s director & writer are returning and they’ve managed to bag themselves Katie Holmes! I liked Lauren Cohen in the original but this is a pretty big, high-profile trade. The Boy 2 goes before the lens January 2019 with no release date announced at this time.
