Alright you primitive screwheads, listen up!” There’s no question that Ash Williams is one of the most iconic and beloved characters in all of horror/horror-comedy history.  He first appeared on the scene in Sam Raimi’s 1981 film Evil Dead as a pretty normal Michigan State University student who was just looking for an enjoyable weekend in the woods with friends.  However, we all know that things don’t go quite as planned and Ash is thrust into an epic battle with evil that spans not just one, but two Evil Dead movies.  And yet, one does not simply encounter the awesome power of the Necronomicon and not be forever changed.  Just when he thought he was done fighting off demons, Ash and his car are transported to Medieval England to once again battle the nefarious Deadite’s in 1992’s Army of Darkness.

Ash is one of those characters that oozes swagger, ego, style, and an attitude that can only be described as very rock-n-roll.  His quick wit and knack for one-liners is one that really can’t be matched.  Except…wait.  Perhaps there is a comparable equivalent out there.  Let’s see…style, swagger, ego, rock-n-roll.  Anything, or anyone, coming to mind? How about the awesome power of the Starchild, Space Ace, the Demon and the Catman! The iconic juggernaut rock-n-roll outfit otherwise known as KISS!

Dynamite Entertainment has recently announced that in February 2018 they will be releasing a new comic book series that combines these two worlds.  While both Army of Darkness and KISS have had their own comic book series’ for quite some time, this will be the first time that their worlds intersect. While the combination may seem a little strange at first, the more one thinks about it, the more it makes sense.  Here is the official synopsis of where the series will begin:

KISS is on top of the world and rocking faces until the night disciples of The Destroyer show up and the band disappears. With the tour canceled, a young Ash misses one of the most important events of his life that will change his destiny. Now the Chosen One has to get back on the right path and join the KISS ARMY OF DARKNESS!

The comic is written by Chad Bowers and Chris Sims who also worked on the X-Men ’92 and Deadpool comics. The comic is illustrated by Ruairi Coleman who has worked on projects such as Star Wars: Rebels and TMNT Amazing Adventures.  The debut issue of the series will be offered with several different cover variants which are all shown here.  “You wanted the best, you got the best!” Make sure to let your local comic book shop know you want this epic comic as solicitations begin this December.
