“The scariest stories are true,” reads the end of the trailer for Lore Season 2. Perhaps that’s why Lore is such a phenomenon. When the series debuted in 2015, it immediately made waves for its creepy style and atmospheric music. Then, in 2017, Amazon Prime brought Lore out of the audio world and into the world of streaming series. Now, ahead of Season 2’s debut, the Lore cast and crew came to NYCC and told us what to expect from Season 2.

The theme of the panel was a ‘reinvigoration’ of the show. For example, executive producer Gale Anne Hurd touted the talents of new showrunner Sean Crouch. Horror fans will know Crouch from his role as showrunner for another popular horror series, The Exorcist. Crouch focused heavily on the new elements of the series. He promoted music runner Dino Meneghin’s all new sound style, which he says is completely unique. Then he touched on incorporating the documentary aspect of the podcast into the narrative series. Fans of the original podcast won’t be let down, says Crouch.

Next, discussion turned to an especially interesting episode in the second season, The Prague Clock. The Prague Clock focuses on the true story of a black plague-ridden town and the disease’s disastrous effects on its inhabitants. But what’s really fascinating is that this episode will be a completely new story to the world of Lore. Fans know that every episode until now has been based on an episode of the podcast. So, an original story really reflects a new direction for the horror series. With Season One earning a less-than-spectacular response from critics, this is a very good thing.
