Margot Robbie (I, Tonya, Suicide Squad) has shared a sneak peak of herself playing murdered actress Sharon Tate on the set of Quentin Tarantino’s new feature, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The Aussie actress posted a photo of herself in Tate’s signature 60s style on Instagram this Monday – three days after Tate’s sister gave the film her blessing on Twitter.
Deborah Tate has been vocal in her opposition to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but she apparently changed her tune after meeting with Tarantino and sitting down to read his script. She told fans, “I have to protect my sisters legacy and to do what I can to make sure her memory is not exploited. I can honestly say that Quinton [sic] shares my commitment. I’m proud to fully support his film.” It probably also helped that Sony Pictures agreed to bring the film’s release date forward so it no longer falls on the 50th anniversary of the Tate-LaBianca murders.
So what does Robbie think of the controversy? She hasn’t revealed much, except to say she’s always been a huge fan of Tarantino and is committed to honouring Tate’s memory. Robbie told IndieWire “I feel a responsibility with every character I play, whether they’re fictional or real life. To play her right, play her truthfully, and kind of understand her emotional journey.”
Details of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’s plot are being kept under wraps, but we know it stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt as a TV star and stunt double desperate to make it in Hollywood in 1969. How much the Manson Family and Tate-LaBianca murders play into the story is still anyone’s guess, but it has been revealed that DiCaprio and Pitt’s characters live next door to the Tate/Polanski home.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood hits cinemas July 26 2019. Are you excited to see the oscar nominated actress portray Sharon Tate? Let us know in the comments below, over on Twitter, or in our Horror Group on Facebook!
