The mermaid coming-of-age story, Blue My Mind, has been touring the festival circuit this year. After months of waiting, it finally has a release date. It’s set to hit a limited number of theatres on November 2nd. Along with a release date, Blue My Mind has a new trailer, which hints at a romantic subtext between Mia and a female classmate.

Blue My Mind follows Mia (Luna Wedler), who is the new girl in a Swiss town. Desperate to make friends, she does anything to get the attention of the cool kids. She steals, drinks, does drugs, and even tries auto-asphyxiation. But her social life isn’t the only thing transforming; Mia’s body is, too, and it’s more than puberty. Think scales and tails. She also eats the family goldfish.

Nightmare on Film Street was lucky enough to catch Blue My Mind (get it?) at this year’s Overlook Film Festival. You can read the full review here, but here’s a quick excerpt:

Though Blue My Mind is slow in pace, those along the ride won’t find themselves bored. Mia is a tortured, enigmatic soul. Even as she descends deeper into her transformation, she is an emotionally intelligent girl butting heads with volatility and chaos. She engages in risky sexual behavior. Men eye her like prey, but she is ultimately in control. Serving up shoves as often as ‘sures‘. Whatever she’s becoming, wherever this journey takes her, we resonate – because our bodies once did the same thing.

Blue My Mind is set to hit select theatres on November 2nd. So far it is scheduled to run for two weeks in Los Angeles. It will hit VOD on November 13th.
