Milla Jovovich may be stepping away from the Resident Evil franchise to make way for the Hollywood reboot machine – but she’s still charging her way in through action-heavy pictures. Not only is she playing the lead villain in the upcoming Hellboy (again, a reboot), but Screen Gems has just announced her in a new monster-plagued fantasy coming in 2020.

Monster Hunter pits Jovovich against a secret world of monsters, hidden from our own. The logline describes the film as “Behind our world, there is another — a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When Lt. Artemis (Jovovich) and her loyal soldiers are transported from our world to the new world, the unflappable lieutenant receives the shock of her life. In her desperate battle for survival against enormous enemies with incredible powers and unstoppable, terrifying attacks, Artemis will team up with a mysterious man (Tony Jaa) who has found a way to fight back.”

Tip “T.I.” Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta, Josh Helman, Jin Au-Yeung and Ron Perlman co-star in Monster Hunter, and Anderson also produces alongside Robert Kulzer, Martin Moszkowicz, Jeremy Bolt and Dennis Berard.

And, surprisingly enough, Monster Hunter comes from Resident Evil writer/Director Paul W.S. Anderson – who’s evidently built a strong working relationship with Jovovich through the six film franchise (which grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide, I might add).

Sony Pictures announced a September 4th, 2020 release date, and it is currently the only film sitting in the coveted Labour Day weekend slot.
