“They brought you into this world, now they’ll take you out.”

Mom and Dad is an off-the-walls black comedy starring Selma Blair and (the one and only) Nicolas Cage. Under the grips of a mysterious hysteria, parents across the country unanimously decide “The little brats have to go!”. Walking a fine line between macabre madness and slapstick comedy, Mom and Dad looks to be one wild ride. And based on tone alone, it’s no surprise to learn the film is written and directed by Brian Taylor (CrankGamerGhost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance). Much like a zombie film, Carly and her younger brother Joshua must outrun and outsmart the people closest to them if they want to live to see tomorrow.

The official synopsis is sparse but tells us everything we need to know:

A teenage girl and her little brother must survive a wild 24 hours during which a mass hysteria of unknown do to causes parents to turn violently on their own kids.

Mom and Dad had it world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival as part of the Midnight Madness selection. No surprise. Welcoming an audience of genre fans ready for absurdist violence, program director Peter Kuplowsy promised audiences a film that “[…]gleefully teeters with the tone throughout, dipping from swaths of ironic slapstick horror to a white-knuckle postpartum set piece in a hospital delivery room”. In other words, this isn’t just a 90 minute excuse to showcase the infamous Rage-Cage. Going off what we saw in the trailer though, if you came looking for just that, you will not be disappointed.

Mom and Dad starring Nicolas Cage (The Wicker Man, Kick Ass) Selma Blair (Hellboy) is set to crash onto VOD January 18, 2017, through Entertainment One and Momentum Pictures. Rounding out the cast in this bonkers joyride of insanity are Anne Winters, Zachary Arthur, and Lance Henriksen. Yeah, that Lance Henriksen. Written and Directed by Brian Taylor, the film is edited by Rose Corr and Fernando Villena with Daniel Pearl (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) taking up cinematography duties.
