A new trailer has dropped for the latest film from director Mitchell Lichtenstein (Teeth, Happy Tears).  Angelica is a film based on the novel written by Arthur Phillips and stars indie film favorite Jena Malone (Saved!, Into the Wild, The Ruins) as Constance.  A period piece, Angelica takes place in Victorian London and begins by looking like a beautiful love story similar to one that you might find in a BBC program.  However, after the birth of her daughter, Constance‘s tale begins to take a dark turn.  Here’s a synopsis courtesy of IMDB:

In Victorian England, sexual repression opens a rift between young couple Constance and Joseph after the birth of their daughter Angelica. As Constance becomes more and more protective of little Angelica, a ghostly predator begins to make its way through the house late at night… ANGELICA is a spellbinding ghost story about desire, repression and its consequences…

The film also stars Janet McTeer (Insurgent, Me Before You), Tovah Feldshuh (Walking Dead) and Ed Stoppard (The Frankenstein Chronicles) as the husband and father figure.  Put out by Pierpoline Films, Angelica is a film that has long been in the works, but will finally be released on November 17th in the U.S.  While a lot of recent horror films seem to be residing in the 1980’s, Angelica (set in the 1880’s) may prove to be a visual breath of fresh air.  Check out the trailer above.
