MoviePass has been through some turbulent times, but has seemed to have righted this ship for the time being. They have been branching out into producing films; greenlighting upcoming horror title The Reckoning from Neil Marshall. Production for this film is set to begin on January 15thaccording to Deadline.

This news is pretty exciting, as Marshall is a great director. He hit the scene with his military versus werewolves film Dog Soldiers in 2002 and followed it up with the female-driven The Descent (2005). This latter film is especially relevant as The Reckoning is also being described as be a female-driven. Marshall co-wrote the script along with Edward Evers-Swindell. The two of them also worked together on The Descent when Evers-Swindell worked in the sound department. He doesn’t have a lot of credits under his belt, but it looks to be all to be in the genre.

There’s not a lot out about the story of The Reckoning as of yet. What we do know is it will take place in England in the year 1665. There is the backdrop of the great plague as well as witch hunts. Charlotte Kirk stars, portraying Evelyn Haverstock. She is also as an executive producer on the project. Her character of Evelyn is a young widow after her husband commits suicide. If that’s not enough to deal with, she is falsely accused of being a witch. Her landlord is her accuser when she rebuffs his advances.

From the sounds of what little we know of the synopsis, it appears The Reckoning will draw parallels with social issues that are in the forefront today. It is in the capable hands of Marshall, even though he hasn’t helmed a film since 2010’s Centurion. He has been busy with televisions shows like Game of Thrones, Hannibal and Westworld. He did however direct a segment in 2015’s Tales of Halloween and the new Hellboy film.
