AT&T wasn’t fooling around when they decided to produce a detective thriller. Their fairly recent channel, AUDIENCE network, needed a real hit if it was going to stand out in the world of crime TV, so they pulled from a sure-fire source. Stephen King’s End of Watch trilogy follows the exploits of detective Bill Hodges, and AUDIENCE morphed Hodges’s story into a gripping, tense tale of secrets and sins. Now, AUDIENCE is continuing the story. Mr. Mercedes, according to the producers, is headed back for a third season.

This news is sure to delight Stephen King fans and critics alike. Though not the most popular King adaptation in the works, Mr. Mercedes has been well received by critics all over the web. On Rotten Tomatoes, for example, the first two seasons sit at an 86% and 100% rating, respectively. According to Daniel York, senior executive vice president and chief content officer for AT&T, that’s because of the folks working on the show. “Mr. Mercedes has resonated with such a wide audience, so we’re thrilled to bring it back for a third season for our customers,” he said. “David E. Kelley, Jack Bender and Sonar have crafted a series that honors the original work by Stephen King and we can’t wait to see where they take the show in a post-Mr. Mercedes world.”

David Kelley, for those that don’t know, is the showrunner for Mr. Mercedes. The aforementioned Jack Bender is a director and a creative consultant on the show. There’s no word yet on when Bill Hodges will return to AUDIENCE, but you can bet that as soon as they do, we’ll be all over it.
