The spell was pretty simple, to be fair. A little bit of that old standby, Eye of Newt. Some pale lichen from the clearing in the deep forest where nothing ever grows. Some of Jack Dorsey’s beard hair. A gust of that ancient rascal, the western wind. Still, it worked, and Netflix has announced that they are renewing The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina for seasons three and four.

Look, I was as skeptical as anyone when we all started off on this strange path where we gave the super-wholesome, kinda cheesy Archie Comics characters gritty, hard-nosed reboots. Riverdale, the CW’s weird-as-hell hit show that made Jughead into a gang leader, was a little much to take at first. In fact, when it was first recommended to me by my brother-in-law I thought he’d finally lost it completely. Then, slowly, I came around as the show became…increasingly bizarre. Now I’m a fan, Elijah Daniel be damned.

I never once had that problem with The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrinathough. The show had me hooked from the start. It’s a stylish take on witches, black magic, and Satanism that never once feels like it’s trying too hard. The visuals are at times intense (check out the final episode of Season One, just as one example) and the atmosphere is as chilling as the title implies. Kiernan Shipka is the perfect Sabrina Spellman, equal parts innocent teenager and dark half-witch growing into her powers.

Now, hot on the heels of A Midwinter’s Tale, the Christmas episode that was released December 14th, Netflix has announced that they will be ordering 16 more episodes of the show, on top of the second season which is already slated to be released. Speaking of the second season, if you haven’t watched the teaser for it yet, get on that below:

(I really love the homage to the original TV series, Sabrina The Teenage Witch (1996-2003), right at the beginning of that.)

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, showrunner for The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina and creative chief of Archie Comics, was quoted as saying:

“Praise Satan! I’m so grateful to my partners at Warner Brothers, Netflix, Berlanti Television, and Archie Productions for supporting this darker vision of the world’s most famous teen witch. I’m thrilled to be continuing to tell Sabrina’s chilling adventures with our incredible cast and crew, led by the unstoppable Kiernan Shipka.”

Season Two of The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina arrives April 5th, 2019.
