Big news, witches! Sabrina has been cast! 18-year-old Kiernan Shipka is officially the lead for Netflix’s upcoming (and currently unnamed) series based on the Archie Horror comic, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Shipka, a Chicago native, is most known for her role as Sally Draper in AMC’s Mad Men. Horror fans may recognise her 2009’s horror film Carriers, or The Blackcoat’s Daughter. Between her part in one of the most successful TV dramas in history and her genre work experience, I’d say she’s extremely well-suited to lead Netflix’s Sabrina series.

Archie Horror mastermind Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa tweeted a link to the announcement with the caption, “So excited to announce our Sabrina!!!” Friday afternoon. Ten minutes later, he posted a picture of Kiernan Shipka holding an Archie Comics anthology book. Every time Aguirre-Sacasa tweets, I squeal a little louder. My cat is SO TIRED of hearing about this Sabrina show.

Originally envisioned as a CW teen soap opera in the same vein as Riverdale, the frustratingly-unnamed Sabrina show is now set to be a darker, meaner Netflix series. The announcement of Kiernan Shipka as Sabrina is a huge step forward, but some questions still remain: who will play Salem? Will it be a real cat, a puppet, or CGI? Will I ever get the chance to pet Salem? Finally, can we officially just call it Chilling Adventure of Sabrina?
