Never Hike Alone (2017) places fans back into the woods, just in time for Jason’s birthday. The fan-made short, clocking in at 53 minutes, is the closest we’ve come to a new Friday the 13 film in 8 long years. Never Hike Alone follows Kyle McLeod, a young backcountry hiker who discovers the long lost remains of Camp Crystal Lake. Crowd-funded on Kickstarter, the project surpassed it’s goal, raising $18,934 from 294 backers earlier this year. Bringing a long overdue Found Footage approach to the franchise, the short shows viewers there are still new and exciting stories to tell with Jason Voorhees.
Never Hike Alone is a 22-minute short film that follows the story of Kyle McLeod, an avid backcountry hiker who, while on a solo backpacking trip, discovers the long lost remains of Camp Crystal Crystal Lake. Ignoring the campfire ghost stories from his childhood, Kyle’s curious nature draws him in to see what is left of the camp since it was closed after the infamous 1980 Friday the 13th murders.
However, Kyle’s innocent search of the camp turns deadly when he is attacked by Camp Crystal Lake’s last remaining resident, Jason Voorhees.
Stranded alone in the middle of the wilderness, with a legendary mass murderer on his heels, Kyle’s survival skills will be put to the test like never before. Will he make it out of the woods alive or become another victim of the cursed camp?
Never Hike Alone is written and directed by Vincente DiSanti, who also holds an acting credit as Jason Voorhees himself. The short also stars Andrew Leighty as Kyle Mcleod, and fans of the Friday franchise will be happy to see Thom Matthews (Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives) reprising his role as Tommy Jarvis!
Released Friday October 13th, 2017 from Womp Stomp Films, Never Hike Alone is streaming now on youtube.
