Superhero fans beware, Brightburn is here to make your worst nightmares come true. The James Gunn-directed, Elizabeth Banks-starring super-powered horror flick has been attracting attention ever since the two joined up to make a horror film.

Excitement rose when the first trailer, which showed the films’ Man of Steel influence dropped a few months ago. And now, even more people are talking about the film thanks to a new trailer released yesterday. The new trailer is tense, smart, and clearly owes a lot to both the comic book and horror movie genres. You can watch it here:

Brightburn, as any comic fan can see, is a warped re-imagining of the Superman mythos. Just like the tale of Kal-El, the story begins with young parents finding a baby in a spaceship. The baby grows to be a boy and starts developing superpowers, but then Brightburn takes a hard left turn from the Superman origin story. From what we can tell in the trailer, the super powered child takes on a dark and bloodthirsty personality. With powers like his, this means a reign of terror for the small, rural community in which he lives. And no one in that town has it worse than his adopted mother, who through all his terrifying deeds, still sees the little boy she rescued.

Brightburn hits theaters on May 24th, 2019. What do you think of the new Brightburn trailer? Will Superman make for a good horror villain? We want to hear your thoughts.
