Daniel Isn’t Real is an upcoming horror movie that involves a dangerous and deadly imaginary friend. Think Drop Dead Fred (1991) for the horror crowd, I guess. The movie is set to premier at 2019s SXSW Film Festival, and we have your first look at the brand new poster art.
Daniel Isn’t Real stars Patrick Schwarzenegger (Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse), Miles Robbins (Halloween), Sasha Lane (upcoming Hellboy), Hannah Marks (Southbound) and Mary Stuart Masterson (The Stepford Wives). The movie was directed by Adam Egypt Mortimer from a screenplay that he co wrote with Brian Deleeuw. The film is based on Deleeuw’s own novel, In This Way I Was Saved. Mortimer previously helmed Some Kind of Hate (2015). Elijah Wood served as producer for Daniel Isn’t Real.
Traumatized 8-year old Luke invents an imaginary friend named Daniel who leads them both into a world of fantasy and imagination. After Daniel tricks Luke into doing something terrible, Luke is forced to lock him away. Twelve years later, Luke brings Daniel back — and he now appears as a charming, manipulative young man with a terrifying secret agenda.
Other than the premier at this year’s SXSW Film Festival, there has not been an official release date announced. But be sure to stick with Nightmare on Film Street and, as always, we will keep you posted as we learn further details.
Personally, I’m loving the poster for Daniel Isn’t Real. At first glance, the imagery kind of reminded me of the poster for The House of the Devil, but in neon. And the more I look at the artwork, the creepier it gets. Well done!
