Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time in Hollywood has been on the forefront of everyone’s minds as soon as it was announced that he was working on something new. We have been holding our breath for every little bit of information about his upcoming film as it came our way. Actors and a loose plot have been holding us over until now but the official trailer has just been released and it was worth the wait.
Sony released the trailer ahead of its premiere at the Cannes film festival, where the film has been receiving near unanimous praise from critics and audiences. There is no denying that this really ramped up the excitement for the movie and will be one of the highlights at this years film festival.
The trailer does confirm that the film will be set against the backdrop of the Manson Family murders which occurred fifty years ago this August. Most believed that this was going to be a direct telling of the murders but it appears as if it might be a reimagining of the events just like Tarantino’s murdering of Hitler in his World War II film, Inglorious Basterds (2009).
Leonardo DiCaprio will be playing the washed up television star Rick Dalton and Brad Pitt portrays his friend and stunt double Cliff Booth. From the trailer it appears as if two completely different movies are going on. The first is what Hollywood does to people and how it brings them to the brink of insanity. The second focuses on Charlie Manson and how Brad Pitt’s character is involved with the group at Spahn Ranch. Pitt’s character seems awfully reminisce of Dennis Wilson, one of the members of The Beach Boys, and his experience hanging around Manson before the murders. But then again that’s just my theory.
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is directed by Quentin Tarantino and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Al Pacino, Kurt Russel, Dakota Fanning, Lena Dunham, and the late Luke Perry. The films hits theaters July 26th, 2019. Are you excited for Tarantino’s latest film? Will it live up to expectations? What are your theories?
