Check out the new poster for Chance the Rapper’s upcoming pizza-themed horror-comedy Slice. The poster, which the rapper shared on Twitter earlier this week, features a headless Little Caesars mascot attempting to eat a slice of pizza. Chance captioned the photo “It’s coming”.
As Nightmare on Film Street reported last year, Slice is being produced by none other than A24 – the production company behind horror gems It Follows (2014), The Witch (2015) and, more recently, It Comes At Night (2017) and Hereditary (2018).
A24 released a teaser trailer and illustrated poster back in October, and it looks like the company is making the most of the ‘80s horror nostalgia wave. The marketing materials lean heavily into the film’s genre appeal and are (dare we say) delightfully cheesy. The first poster (pictured above) is giving me It Follows, The Guest (2014) and Drive (2011) vibes. Here’s hoping Slice’s soundtrack follows in similar footsteps.
Slice is the feature debut of writer/director Austin Vesely, who has directed a few of Chance’s video clips.
Details are scant, but the film will focus on the murder of a pizza delivery guy and the search for his killer or killers. Suspects include a gang of local drug dealers and a werewolf. Chance will play werewolf Dax Lycander, who is also a former Chinese food delivery driver. Adding to the nostalgia wave, the film also stars Joe Keery of Stranger Things fame.
And if that weren’t intriguing enough, Slice takes place in an alternate universe. Vesely told the Chicago Tribune: “It could just be some mediocre river town in the middle of America, but it just has these supernatural elements that people accept as reality… I have ghosts in this movie and they’re basically part of the fabric of the government.”
Slice doesn’t have a release date yet but watch this space.
