“We need more horror like Hereditary!” Fear not, friends, as a new trailer for The Lodge is here to fill that Paimon shaped hole in your heart. The movie stars Richard Armitage, Alicia Silverstone, and Riley Keough. It’s expected to release this fall, and you can check out the brand new trailer right here:
The film is written by Sergio Casci, and directed by the duo of Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz. The pair previously worked together on Goodnight Mommy, an Austrian horror film that is currently getting a big-budget US remake.
The Lodge features Armitage as Richard, who takes his two children and his fiancé to a remote cabin to get a little bonding time between his kids and their soon-to-be stepmom. As is typically the case with this type of dreadful horror, things quickly go sideways in a variety of creepy, unsettling ways.
The trailer for The Lodge doesn’t give too much away, which is probably a good thing – this seems like the type of horror that gets a lot of its scares from disorienting the audience. The Lodge got rave reviews from its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.
There looks to be all sorts of directions this one could go – the kids discover that their dad’s fiancé, Grace (Keough), is a survivor of a cult. The two are also very wary of someone coming in to replace Laura (Silverstone), their biological mother. Meanwhile, the characters’ psyches are being tested, due to being stuck in an unsettling (and possibly supernatural) location with no means of escape.
There is no definitive release date for The Lodge, but it is coming sometime this fall. We will have more information on the film as it becomes available. Until then, stay tuned to our Twitter, the official NOFS subreddit, and Facebook in the Horror Movie Fiend Club for more upcoming horror news.
