Looks like our friends over at Living Dead Media have been stirring up a zombie horde lately – and no you don’t have to start practicing your heads shots. There is a new sequel in the works for the iconic cult horror classic Night of the Living Dead. Living Dead Media just recently spread the word that they have their clutches on the unproduced script by the original writers and producers themselves, George Romero and John Russo. The LDM team has unboxed the project from its dusty film crypt to reanimate with a great team producing this new installment. A sequel that has inexplicably languished for over the past forty years unproduced.
Living Dead Media has also been busy lately with the worldwide release of the remastered version of Night of the Living Dead, with Image Ten Productions, Fathom Events, in association with Janus Films, and the Criterion Collection. The remastered version just hit nearly 600 movie theatres nationwide this past Oct. 24th through the 25th only.
Prior to his passing in 2017, Romero had supervised the restoration of Night of the Living Dead in anticipation of the upcoming 50th anniversary. The team at Fathom Events mentioned that Romero worked with the film’s sound engineer, Gary Streiner in restoring and remastering the film in its new glorious 4K Ultra HD from the original camera negatives. The Museum of Modern Art, The Film Foundation, The George Lucas Family Foundation, and The Celeste Bartos Film Preservation Center all joined forces in supporting the restoration project.
Needless to say, it doesn’t take any brains to realize this remastered, restored classic belongs in any die-hard horror fans collection.
